2022 Spring Speaker Series – Dr. Curtis Fields Jr.

The Return of General Ulysses S. Grant on his 200th Birthday!
Featuring renowned living historian & educator Dr. Curtis Fields, Jr.,
Ph.D., Memphis, Tennessee.
Wednesday, April 27, 7:30 p.m.

Three years ago we welcomed Dr. Curtis Fields, Jr., the preeminent portrayer of Ulysses S. Grant, to a packed house for the opening of our 2019 Spring Speakers Series. His presentation that night covered Grant’s early life growing up in Georgetown, Ohio, through his exploits as a West Point cadet, service in the Mexican/American War, and life on lonely military outposts in California. It was such a fascinating presentation that we promised to have him return to continue the story. Dr. Fields presents a convincing, true-to-life image of Grant as he really appeared and acted. His first-person presentations are based on Grants’ actual words.

This time he will address “The Desperate Years” following Grant’s return to St. Louis after resigning from the army in 1854, his quick rise up the ranks at the beginning of the Civil War,
and his early victories on the battlefield that set him on his path to higher command and greatness. It also happens that April 27 is Grant’s 200th birthday, so please join us—and the
General—for a piece of birthday cake following the program!
