Rocks, Artifacts and Fossils – Clues to Ross County’s Prehistoric Story

If you have an interest in Ross County’s prehistoric past, be sure to attend the fifth annual Archaeology Day hosted by the Ross County Historical Society in conjunction with the Mound City Chapter of the Archaeological Society of Ohio. Exhibits by local collectors featuring a wide variety of locally found prehistoric artifacts, geofacts, fossils and minerals will be on display in the Society’s Transportation Hall.

Also on exhibit, will be a one-day-only display of our World Heritage nomination by Hopewell Culture National Historic Park and displays from the Ross County Historical Society’s fossil and artifact collections. Archaeologist JEB Bowen from the Clarke-May Museum in Circleville will be on hand to answer questions and to help visitors identify items from private collections. The event will take place at the Ross County Heritage Center located at 45 West 5th Street, Chillicothe.
